Life After Potter – What to Read Now?

The year of 2012 will be the first year without any Harry Potter releases since I was 8 years old. This has left a magic shaped whole inside my heart that I’ve been looking to fill…

Thankfully there’s a fabulous website called Life After Harry Potter! The website featured a book list of other Young Adult Sorcery Fantasy reads. And for those out there who love Molly Weasley, Minerva McGonagall and Hermione Granger best, there is a featured (and fairly extensive) Heroine Sorcery Fantasy books list as well. The website is a bit dated (copyrighted through 2009…) but the book could still be interesting to read.

I will say, many of the recommendations are books that you probably read as a kid if you really enjoyed fantasy (which I totally did.) If Harry Potter and Twilight have been your only exposure to the idea of fantasy however, there are definitely some YA novels worth trying on this site.

(I have to say, I loved Tamora Pierce’s Tortall series, especially the Song of the Lioness and Protector of the Small Quartets. If you ever want a brief read (they will literally only take hours) with some pretty epic female knights they are well worth a look.)
