This week’s featured comic is Nerf NOW!! by Josué Pereira.
What’s the Deal?: In the never ending line up of video game centric webcomics, Nerf NOW!! ranks high on many lists. With a slick style and a punchline every third panel, this comic stays witty and relevant no matter what kind of game system or genre you play. However, that being said, Pereira focuses primarily on PC games, referencing fan favorites DOTA 2 and Team Fortress 2 frequently. If you are a Steam user and/or a PC gamer, this is definitely a webcomic worth your time. The comic alternates between witty satire and pointed sarcastic or cynical commentary on what’s going on in the games industry.
The Characters: Nerf NOW!! is episodic in nature, with every three panels featuring different video game characters and game industry personalities in a host of contexts. There are several reoccurring game heroes (and villains) but they are not fully characterized so much as caricatures.
The Art: Slick digital ink and fully colored panels. The whole comic has a “sharp” look to it and feels ripe for parody.
Safe for Work?: I’d give it a PG-13 rating – there are some more mature jokes every now and again.
Frequency of Updates: Monday through Friday, although I couldn’t find actual confirmation of this.
