This week’s featured webcomic is Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant by Tony Cliff.
What’s the Deal?: In 19th-century Turkey, an Lieutenant in the Janissary army must repay a borderline insane adventuress for saving his life. The woman, Delilah Dirk, is an untamed and wild creature, an agile fighter and smooth talker who may or may not belong to three different royal courts. She has a taste for trouble, and she drags around her Turkish Lieutenant, Selim, through a slew of chaotic adventures and mishaps. The story arcs are so robust, it reads more like a graphic novel than a webcomic.
The Characters: Delilah is quite possibly one of my favorite comic heroines ever. Cliff’s writing is deft, and his ability to shape and develop his characters through both art and dialogue is masterful.
The Art: Cliff’s illustrations are less stylized than most of my featured webcomics, but his colors are sharp and his line art well-defined.
Safe for Work?: Yes.
